Alexandrist - Mortalism [CD] (PRE-ORDER)

Mortalism is the debut album from The Alexandrist - a band built around a body of work that seems like it could have emerged at any point in the last half century but chose to wait for this moment. At the center is Alex, an enigmatic multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and writer: Part poet, part observer, part disappearing act. He wears the language of rock like an old leather jacket: Familiar, yet with new wrinkles to discover every time you reach for it. His songs live somewhere between confession and code, where meaning is never handed over completely. The album moves through angular guitars, atmospheric rock textures, melodic hooks, unexpected rhythms, and a restless lyrical intelligence. There is nostalgia here, but it is never comfortable nostalgia. A line can sound romantic in one moment and threatening in the next. Intentions are obscured beneath imagery, attitude, irony, and fragments of personal mythology. The project inhabits the space between '80s underground rock, art-school cool, and nocturnal city streets. It is imbued with the mystery of a lost record discovered in a second-hand shop, except that the record somehow knows something about you.
